These boots are made for walkin’- I love my boots! I bought them for myself as a birthday present…what a treat. I got them a half size smaller than I usually wear and it only took one time of wearing them to break ‘em in. I can wear them (I got the dark brown) with jeans, dressier pants, skirts, whatever I want. (I almost wore them to a wedding!) I don’t know what folks are talking about when they say they couldn’t fit them over their calves- I had no issues there. I get so many compliments on these boots. Seriously, best birthday gift ever.

Wide Feet - I really, really, really wanted these boots to fit! i have wide feet (very wide since the birth of my second child) and finding shoes that fit has suddenly become a problem. I read on the Frye website to order up if you have wide feet, which would have worked if my right foot wasn’t even wider than the left. (left one fit.) Oh well. I ended up ordering my old standby (not boots) of Keens. They are definitely not as stylish as these, but they fit like a dream, with no breaking in period.

Good in college, even better now - I remember splurging on this pair of Frye boots my first year (junior year) at SIU in Carbondale, Ill. Not only did they last me the three more years it took me to get my journalism degree, they also lasted for years afterwards. It’s so weird that they are now called “Campus” boots — I don’t think they were in 1975 when I bought my first pair. After graduation in 1978, I took the boots with me to my first job at a South Florida newspaper — even though I got a lot of looks that said “What are you doing wearing boots on the beach?” I moved on to sandals like everyone else here, and thought no more about my beloved Frye boots. But I was amazed and thrilled recently to see them online again. They’re better this time around because I can afford them! They’re not really a splurge at this stage in my life, but I’m mighty glad to have found them again. I remember that they caused horrible blisters the first time, until I finally broke them in. I hope they don’t do that any more.

I love these boots. The quality is like no other. Theyre expensive, but you won’t regret it. It took me forever to convince myself to spend that much on them, but I love them now and I know they are built to last. Theyre not the sexiest boot, but they’re casual, classic, and comfy.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:09 am
Nice boot, lacks support - I really love the look of this boot, but I’m an over-pronator so they were pretty uncomfortable. A nice pair of Dr Scholls arch supports have solved that problem.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:09 am
Excellently made, comfortable boots. Fit my 15.5″ calves. Moreover, Zappos is absolutely the best…when the boot box was damaged; they sent me a new box in which to store my new beautiful boots. What company, online or otherwise, would do that? I’m with Zappos for life!
January 31st, 2008 at 6:10 am
Good for larger calves - As an athletic girl with 14 1/2″ calves, I have trouble finding a tall boot that I can zip. These fit the bill. They look great with jeans, casual skirts and dresses. I can’t tuck in a jean, but as I am only 5′4″ that’s not a trend that works for me anyway. To darken (as they were a bit bright for this black shoe wearin’ girl) and protect them I used mink oil.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:10 am
turning heads wherever I go - I wore these boots in NYC, Chicago and St. Louis and was turning heads in all places. Plus, these boots are so comfortable. They hardly needed any breaking in at all. I love them. I will love them forever too. They are most definitely worth the price.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:10 am
I really love the look of the boot. They were really hard to get on the first time and the fit good. But when I wore them out for a short time they were like a size too big. I am disappointed because now its too late and I can not return for a smaller size. I got marks on the bottom of the boot so I guess its too late. Seeing the price tag I am disappointed, its more than I normally pay for boots.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:11 am
SO FLY! SUPERFAST delivery. Zappos is amazing! I ordered these boots in my exact size and they fit fine! I dont know how big these ladies are who cant get the boots over their calves! They fit with plenty of room for skinny jeans or straight leg. I was paranoid by other reviews but I slid right into them no problem and I’m no Nicole Richie! LOL. Color is great. More like Bananas Foster! They seem easy to stain so I hope there is some kind of stain/water treatment I can get for them. I dont want to ruin these. I dont know if I will ever get them at this price again! Frye is well crafted SUPERIOR to any other boot on the market.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:11 am
I live in them - I have wanted these boots for over a year and took the plunge to celebrate my 30th birthday. Zappos promoted me to free two day shipping and I have not taken them off since. I recommend Frye to everyone!
January 31st, 2008 at 6:11 am
This is a great looking boot. I got them in dark brown, but unfortunately had trouble with how wide the shaft of the boot was. I don’t have very large calves but I had to have the boots stretched in order for them to fit.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:11 am
Frye Campus Boots Banana 14L - These boots are sweet. I love them. All emotions aside… I bought my regular size and it works for me. The toe area was tight at first but after wearing them it feels looser. The heel slips while walking but with a good pair of knee socks I don’t notice that anymore. I didn’t receive blisters to break them in (try hiking socks sold at sporting stores - wicks away moisture and gives extra protection while breaking these babies in). The shaft did fit my not-too-skinny calves. I inspected the Campus very carefully; it’s no doubt a quality boot. In comparison to the other boots I’ve bought it makes the others look cheap. Zappos is great - fast service, great shoes, and honest reviews.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:12 am
Great All Around Boot - I just received my much anticipated Frye Campus boots in dark brown and they are gorgeous. The only issue is they are extremely difficult to get on. Once on my heel does slip but I am glad I bought my true size. They already feel comfortable and I ams ure they will break in. The color is beautiful, seems like they will go with everything. Yea!! I believe I have found my all around perfect everyday boot.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:12 am
Love them! I got my Frye boots (in saddle) in the mail 3 days ago. Beware…the first time putting them on is not easy. The boots and I had a throw-down in the middle of the floor before they finally surrendered. It does take a couple of days to stretch them out. Otherwise, they are quite comfortable and look great with most outfits. You will get plenty of compliments.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:12 am
Almost perfect - I had ordered a brown boot, careful not to get the banana color. But I guess what I got is brown over banana? It’s not quite what I expected, but I like it well enough not to return them. I also ordered a size 7 but received a 7.5. It worked fine.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:13 am
Love my Frye boots but… These boots were made for someone who has slender calves, not that I have abnormally sized calves, but these were a little tight. I spent a few days stretching them out before I could wear them. Also, they did pinch my toes for quite a while. On the other hand they are really good looking shoes and they go with everything!
January 31st, 2008 at 6:13 am
Banana? More like caramel. The color is actually a beautiful, warm caramel with striations of a darker brown. They’re very neutral; I think calling it “banana” is a little off-putting. I have a tough time finding shoes that fit because I have bunions, so my feet are wider at the front than at the back. I took a chance and ordered these boots on sale from another retailer and I just got them yesterday, but the leather is very supple and I can tell they’ll stretch to accommodate my weird feet. They’re pretty tight around my calves, but again I think they’ll be fine after a few wearings. Definitely take other reviewers’ advice and order a half-size to a full-size smaller than you usually wear. I’m scared to wear these boots until I waterproof them, because I love them so much I think I’ll be wearing them for many years to come. They make me feel like I could kick some serious butt. Now I’m considering paying full price for the black ones..
January 31st, 2008 at 6:13 am
These are the best pair of boots I own! They make my big feet look small, which is nice for once- They are very comfortable and are nice in the winter time when worn with a thick knee sock- they look great with jeans, dresses, and skirts- they are very unique and get lots of compliments! They are worth the price and it’s great they they’re made in the USA! I wear a nine and an 8.5 fit perfectly!
January 31st, 2008 at 6:14 am
Great, great, great! This boot is great. It’s pretty comfortable for a heavier boot, but I have to exchange my “banana” ones for something darker. Great color for spring time things, but too bright for me (city girl). The leather is VERY soft and the insole is nicely cushioned. Great boot, great investment.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:14 am
No support - I just wore mine for the twelfth time after purchasing them a year ago exactly. I got them in lavender so they look really nice with my spring skirts… however, they are really not comfortable. They pinch me right at my little toe nail and if I had known this pinch would not work it’s way out after a few wearings, I would have returned them. I find them uncomfortable overall.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:14 am
Campus Banana - I love these boots. I’ve had them for years and they are comfortable and stylish. I tend to wear mine with jeans (both under and over). However, the sizing can be tricky. I went with my true size because when I sized down my toes were squished. But with my true size, the heel is sort of loose. I generally just wear these boots with thicker socks and they are okay. My heel still slides a little but I find that better than having squished toes.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:14 am
Great Long-Term Investment- I bought the Frye Campus boots in both Banana and Dark Brown within a week of each other. It took a couple of tries to get the size right, but ultimately, a half-size smaller was perfect. I also found that the banana shade I received in the mail was a darker version of the true banana shade I saw at my local department store. Regardless, the boots didn’t take long at all to break in and I love them. I received the dark browns in the mail two days before leaving for the Sundance Film Festival and I wore them without problems. Major observation: Not good for wet weather. Otherwise, the boots will go everywhere else. I have been wearing both pairs almost everyday and still loving them. I will have them for a very long time.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:15 am
Frye Campus, a good wardrobe staple. While contemplating a purchase of this boot I read these reviews to help me decide on the size to order. I, like most every other customers went a half size smaller than my usual size. The boot is stiff at the start, but very quickly gives. It is a classic and looks great with jeans or a skirt or a dress. I chose the color banana for a change from the ordinary dark brown or black. It is a fun color, but will look much better as it gets beat up and worn in.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:15 am
Never had Frye boots when they were so hot in the ’70’s as I was a bit too preppy for my own good. Now that I’m older and much cooler than I was then - I LOVE these boots. Go great with everything, amazingly becoming and comfortable.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:15 am
Amazed! I ordered these boots last night and received them the very next morning- amazing! Now about the boot- I normally wear between a size 8 1/2-9. I originally ordered this boot in a size 8 1/2, but my heel was way too loose, as if the boot was almost like a flip flop. I ordered a size 8 instead, and I must say they are a much better fit. Since they are made of all leather, they will fit a little snug at first, but with use, will eventually stretch and conform to the shape of your foot. They look beautiful, and are well worth what I paid for them. I highly recommend them!
January 31st, 2008 at 6:16 am
Great boots! These boots are great! I got them in the Dark Brown which is more of a worn look than brand new brown. I love it! They look great with jeans, which I wear all the time. They, like other Frye boots, tend to be a little snug around the front of your foot and looser in the heel area. I wore them twice and they have conformed to my feet better and actually really comfortable! I think I’m going to get the same boots in other colors eventually! Zappos is great! I ordered them Saturday, standard free shipping, and received them Monday! Unreal! Plus you get the 365 day return policy so you can’t go wrong.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:16 am
Love the boots, but… I really do love these boots- they were exactly what I was looking for. However, the shaft is my problem: it’s just a little tight, so I can’t pull the boot all the way up. I thought these boots would have a wide shaft, but I guess not. I might have to return them for half a size bigger, too. I took previous advice and bought half a size smaller than usual, and they were really tight. I wonder if the shaft will be wider on bigger sizes- does anyone have a clue? I really do love these boots…*sigh*
January 31st, 2008 at 6:16 am
Pure love. Thank you, Zappos, for being the greatest retailer of shoes possible. I love these- I got them in both Dark Brown and Banana and they’re both amazingly versatile colors- they go with everything without looking like you tried hard at all. The leather of the brown is a bit stiffer than the banana, but they’re both very comfy and I walk all day in them with no problems whatsoever. I want more!
January 31st, 2008 at 6:17 am
Frye’s campus 14L- Wicked long term investment if youre funky enough to not care what the fashion hawks have to say. Just like good wine they get better with age. I went for saddle, looking worn around the toes now but buff up ok. I now want a black pair to add to my collection for days when I want a smarter look. YOU WON’T BE DISAPPOINTED!
January 31st, 2008 at 6:17 am
Great but don’t get starry eyed! These boots are of the most beautiful and quality craftsmanship I have ever owned. It is true that you DO need to order a half size smaller. Thanks to Zappos reviewers, I took a chance, and they were all right! TRUE: The toe does feel a bit cramped, and the heel is a bit too roomy. TRUE: I wore them out the first time going (ironically) around campus, no socks, trying to break them in. Unfortunately broke my feet more than I broke them in–I’m not kidding when I say that my feet had blisters on my pinkie toes, big toes, and heel. Watch out for those areas–I had to let my feet heal for 2 weeks before I could try them on again. Marvelously, they’re more comfortable now after wearing them in. It’s worth the sacrifice, because once you break them in, they’ll be yours for 30 years or more. No pain, no gain! Start with small trips; I stomp around in them around the house doing normal activities, and build up their “endurance” so to speak. These are expertly crafted boots, worth the initial investment. I wish I got them darker, because who knows how long the Banana (really just a light tan –not yellow) trend will last. With these boots, the key thing to remember is that practice makes perfect. Don’t be heartbroken if you get blisters, I did when many others have not. I think this is because I have narrow, small feet, so they slid around alot without socks. Wear socks first until they’re broken in. One reviewer mentioned wading into water a few inches, but I don’t recommend that–just think of all the things that could go wrong! It’s all about having the leather worked in places you need it worked–areas that feel tight at first are GOOD signs, because that’s an area that (at the expence of your skin) will get prodded and molded to fit you like a glove. Don’t be starry eyed–but don’t be scared either!
January 31st, 2008 at 6:17 am
Love these boots!! For boots they are very comfortable. I really like the Banana color and wasn’t sure I would. They look great with denim or corduroy skirts! I ordered an 8 because the website recommended going down a size and I normally wear 8 1/2. I ended up buying the 8 1/2 and I wear thick socks with them.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:18 am
Beautiful boots! A great boot, flexible enough to wear with funky skirts or jeans. Not at all trendy, these boots are made to last a looong time. The color is definitely more neutral the the name “banana” implies. Order at least a half-size smaller than your normal shoe size.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:18 am
At first I couldn’t understand what the big deal was about Frye Campuses- they looked to me like any plain old boot and a little bit too masculine for my taste. However in person, the boots are amazing. The workmanship is the best I’ve ever seen on any boots I’ve owned, and you can tell that they are painstakingly made from the stitching and leather quality. The height is perfect - high enough to make a difference in stature, yet low enough to be comfortable. They feel very sturdy, and yet are sexy and feminine in a rugged, “couldn’t care less” kind of way. I was kind of nervous about the length hitting my calf at the wider part of my leg, but it looks fine b/c the shaft opening is quite wide, and thus makes my legs look slimmer. My only slight complaint is that the heels slip a tiny bit yet the toe area is slightly narrow (my feet are a tad wide). It’s no big deal though, b/c it’s not painful, and I can tell that the leather is already starting to give after little wear. I got these in dark brown, which looks a little more yellow than in the photo - but it’s a very cool finish b/c they look like a naturally distressed vintage boots. These are worth the money and fit true to size for me.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:18 am
FRYE CAMPUS L W- Definitely high-quality boots. Usually a 9, but 8.5 fits perfect. A little hard to get on though. Once you get your feet in they feel great. Having some trouble with the “tag” sewn in the inside of the leg of the boot. It rubs against my skin and created a sore on my leg. I’m trying to figure out how to get the tag off. Maybe a seam-ripper. Anybody else have this problem? They’d be better without the tag inside. Love the color! Zappos is great on customer service. Would recommend the boot and shopping at Zappos.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:19 am
I owned this shoe in the 70’s. At that time they didn’t make larger sizes for women. I normally wear an 11 1/2 or 12, but thought I would take a gamble with the 11. I actually fits quite well, a little snug, but I think that they will loosen up a bit with wear. Great looking, well made boot! Zappos is great! I ordered this Wed at 4pm(CST) and received the shoes before 5pm on Thursday! Tanya on the phones ROCKS!
January 31st, 2008 at 6:19 am
These boots are amazing… I have skinny legs and they STILL look good, which is quite the feat to accomplish! I recommend them to anyone who is looking for a boot like this! I usually wear between a 9.5 and a 10, and I ordered a size 9, which fits great.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:19 am
A welcome addition to any boot girl’s closet - These boots are one of the best I have worn. Comfortable from day one, well made and timeless. Run true to size and very versatile.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:20 am
Great investment - As other reviewers have stated, they do run big. I ordered a 7 1/2 and I usually wear between a 8 and 7 1/2. They are easy to get in and out despite not having a zipper. And the leather is fabulous. I love the banana color- a fun neutral color that will go with almost everything. And of course, Zappos’ customer service was superb as usual.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:20 am
The Frye Campus boots are awesome- and Zappos’s overnight shipping and price matching are unbeatable! The boots are very comfortable, I’ve worn them twice so far without problems. I usually wear a 9.5 and I got the 9, which fits fine.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:20 am
These are just amazing. My wife bought them for me. They are just the thing needed for the Irish weather. Cool and sexy. I’m giving 5 stars for comfort ’cause I just got them today, and after a half-an-hour of wearing them you can feel them settling down. Cheers, Frye!
January 31st, 2008 at 6:21 am
These boots look great with everything. The leather is great, so it’s worth the price. I got the banana and at first thinking it will be too yellow, but after wearing them, it’s not, great color. As always, great free shipping with Zappos with the service they offer.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:21 am
Great Boot - As always, Zappos has the quickest free shipping ever. Boots are great, thought they might be a litle big as my heel slides a little, but my toes almost touch the front of the boot. Basically this is just the fit. Great all weather boot and recommend!
January 31st, 2008 at 6:21 am
Excellent Boot! These were a gift for my wife’s 30th birthday. She had wanted a pair of Frye boots for about two years and actually screamed when she opened this gift. She loves these boots and takes every chance she gets to wear them. Just be sure to order the boots about a half size smaller than what you normally wear, as most boots are sized differently than shoes.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:21 am
Greatest boots ever - I had a pair of these boots 20 years ago and have been looking for another pair ever since. Finally I found them, they are everything I anticipated great fit, smart looks and comfortable. I wore out the first pair I had and will these too. Hope they will always be available. Thankyou Frye I love your boots!!
January 31st, 2008 at 6:22 am
I love these boots, they are just so stylish and go with everything. They are pretty comfortable but it took 3 attempts to find a pair that matched in both size and colouring, maybe because they are handmade. Only complaints are one of them seems to let water in and the demin from jeans seems to wear off on them, making them a bit grubby. I intend to buy another pair for sure. Finally I must comment on Zappos Customer service - it’s by far the best I have experienced, the Americans could really teach us Brits a few things !!!
January 31st, 2008 at 6:22 am
What a pleasure! I am a typical size 8; but have lately needed a wide shoe. As a result I usually order an 8 1/2 in a shoe if I cannot get a “wide” in an 8. When I ordered the Frye boot, I took a chance and ordered a regular 8. Knowing that Zappos always honored returns, I figured no harm, no foul. When the boots arrived, I was very pleased to find out that the 8M was a perfect fit. The quality in these boots are fantastic; they will certainly last a lifetime. The leather is pliable and the boots are already conforming to my feet. If you have any hesitations about size, I would suggest you go with your normal shoe size. You can always exchange them with Zappo’s excellent policy.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:22 am
Eternally Cool Retro Style…Buy Some!! I just LOVE these boots, they look awesome worn with anything and everything, from mini skirts to jeans. They get better with age and I’m about to get my second pair just because they look so great! SJP can’t be wrong!
January 31st, 2008 at 6:23 am
Great customer service! This is a great boot. But more importantly, Zappos is an awesome site. Their customer service is wonderful and prompt. I ordered my boots on a Thursday and got them the next day for no additional charge. The boots were actually a little big, so I had to return them, but even the return/exchange process was absolutely painless. They make it really easy and hassle-free! I will definitely keep shopping with Zappos.com and tell my friends.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:23 am
My Birthday Boots! My daughter and her boyfriend sent me a gift certificate on line for my birthday, these boots were my absolute first choice! I have wanted a pair since high school! We won’t discuss what year I graduated… I love them, and my friends love them, they are absolutely perfect!
January 31st, 2008 at 6:23 am
Couldn’t be happier - These boots are spectacular. They slipped right on my feet and broke right in. Not only are they comfortable but really beautiful in design and construction. I’m sure they will last a long time. Also, they go with just about everything in my closet, to boot! I currently vassilate between a size 7 and 8 but the 7/12 was perfect.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:24 am
The 4-Star Boot - I bought this boot in “bananna” years ago, it is still extraordinarily comfy(after broken in).It fit well, but even better when worn and contoured to my high instep and arch. My old boots just show wear, mainly due to the light color. I am currently attempting to locate them in the same color - but they’re not in stock in my size 6 1/2B. That’s how well I liked the boot.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:24 am
Great Boots! Buy a 1/2 size smaller… These boots are so comfy - they felt so worn in the first time I put them on. They are truly comfortable. And SO cute too. Great with jeans tucked in or rolled up, great with skirts for that boho look. Just great all around. Really recommend these boots.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:24 am
Power boots - I’ve had these in black for years. Just recently I ordered them in banana. They are THE perfect boot with jeans. They aren’t yellow, they are a neutral. Absolutely. If you are familiar with boots, any brand, quality boots are sized a half size larger than regular shoes. I wear a 9.5 and a size 9 in these fit perfectly. These are power boots. Rough, tough and extremely cool. I adore mine and wear them everyday.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:25 am
My girlfriend loves them - I bought these for my girlfriend as a Christmas gift. We bought them from Zappos because of the excellent customer service and they were less expensive. I recommend Zappos for all shoe buying needs.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:25 am
These boots are IT. Worth the expense! I spent months deciding on purchasing these boots b/c of the cost, but I’m thrilled with my decision. It may take some time to break them in but these beauties will last for years and they look even cooler with wear. More importantly, they’re incredibly comfortable and durable.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:25 am
I LOVE THESE BOOTS!! I originally purchased these in Black in my regular size 9 1/2. They were slightly large, but I put some Birkenstock insoles (ah!!) in them and they were fine. I then purchased the Banana (my true loves!) in a size 9. They fit me perfectly. My feet are so used to Birkenstocks, that they’re taking me a little longer than usual to break in, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE these boots!!! I wish I could afford a pair in every color!
January 31st, 2008 at 6:26 am
Frye’s Campus 14L W - The boot looks great and is true to size. It’s not a dress boot so it should be no surprise than it’s on the heavy side. Zappo’s shipping policy is incredible. I placed my order around 10:00 a.m. one morning and the boots were delivered the next day late in the afternoon.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:26 am
Campus boots in banana - Love these banana-colored boots, which will go with anything! The detail and amount of stitching required to make a pair of Fryes is amazing — you certainly get what you pay for. Don’t be afraid of the price of the boots, though, because these shoes will be with you for years (or so I’ve heard) — unlike the expensive sandals that I bought this summer, which may not see another season because they were so poorly made. And girls with larger calves, don’t fret! I found them to be a little snug in the shaft, so I took them to my shoe cobbler and had them let the leather out a bit. They had no problem doing it. Be sure to order a 1/2 size down, though, because these babies do run large.
January 31st, 2008 at 6:26 am
LOVE THESE BOOTS! These are the cutest boots! I bought them in Banana and I absolutely love them. They are perfect with jeans! They do run large…I would order a half size smaller than you usually wear. Very fashionable and very comfortable — hard combination to find!
